Ministry Defined, Part 9 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers;
1 Thessalonians 2:10
As believers we must be ever mindful that our testimony is being witnessed both by those we encounter on this earth and by God, who sees all things, including our hearts. What people see represented by us on the outside ought to be consistent with what God sees on the inside!
What words would you choose to describe your Christian life and ministry? Consider the words that Paul uses.
“devoutly” – to be pure and morally clean. This word is only used once in the New Testament. In a society that is plagued by immorality, even in the church and the pulpit, this characteristic is vitally important.
“uprightly” – to be just or honest. What we teach is what we believe is what we live. The testimony we have before people is consistent with the testimony we have before God.
“blamelessly” – to be without fault. It is only used one other time in the New Testament, in 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Gods sanctifying work in our lives is preparing us for the day that we will be with Him for all eternity. In light of this we are constantly striving to live lives that are without reproach.
Once again we are reminded that there must not be a conflict between what we teach and what we live. What people see in our lives and what God sees must be the same! Remember the challenge that Paul gave to Timothy?
Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
